Not a pretty picture!
It was really hazy, grey and murky today and also the air was full of dust. This is the picturesque Charlestown harbour (local press call it Poldark Harbour!). Two weeks ago the strong east wind raged day and night for about 4 days, and the strong waves destroyed part of the inner harbour wall.
To repair it, it took over a week of constant gravel deliveries. The gravel was laid out over half the inner harbour floor so they could drive their heavy vehicles over it to get at the wall. They also used containers filled with gravel to partially block the harbour entrance - the tide still comes in, but with less force. There is dust everywhere.
I couldn't get close enough to get a clearer picture as most of the harbour and beaches both side are closed to the public until the repairs are finished. Everyone is wondering just HOW they will get all that gravel out again! Tipping it in seemed simple. But scoping it all out again?
