Westminster

Today I met mum in london for her Christmas present- a weekend break in the city. The original plan was for mum and I and my very good friend J and her mum to spend the weekend together, but unfortunately they couldn't make it.
Mum really wanted to see a floor mosaic in Westminster Abbey that she'd seen on time team. Unfortunately when we arrived we had missed the tourist visiting times by half an hour- argh! We settled for taking some pictures outside the Abbey, and then had a lovely coffee and cake stop at Apostrophe before moving on to St Pauls Cathedral. This was open, but cost £15per person!! We decided to pass (probably not too different from the last time we visited, even if that was 15 years ago!) and went to the Museum of London instead. Free- but we paid the suggested donation as I really believe that those who can pay should so that these museums can remain free. ( last year we took a group of children from the isle of Wight to the natural history museum. They absolutely LOVED it, and could not believe that it was free to get in! We could not have taken them if there had been an entry fee). Mum and I had a very pleasant time wandering through the exhibits.
Next stop- I Knit London- a specialist yarn shop in Waterloo. Fantastic! Got some fab wools, I am going to crochet a lovely cot blanket for Flan( or tie myself in knots trying!)in green, to match all the bunting I made earlier. Left the wool shop around 6pm, by this time we were both thoroughly tired out so we headed to our hotel, the very lovely Doubletree Hilton in Westminster. Decided to order room service, put a film on and crochet! Thai green curry and chick pea, potato and spinach curry has never tasted so good. Time to put our feet up and enjoy the heady mix of Daniel Craig (Skyfall- love that film) and hand spun yarn. :-)
