Stick Incoming
There's a heronry on an island with three pylons on it in Seventy Acres Lake but unfortunately it is impossible to get a clear view of the birds on the nests. Ollie dog and I sat on a fishing platform and watched the comings and goings. The heron in my image squawked to its mate as it flew in with a stick in its beak. Luckily it didn't drop the nesting material.
As we approached the platform I had heard the piping of kingfishers. I couldn't see them but pointed the camera in the direction the sound was coming from and took a shot. I was amazed when I later saw on screen that I've captured a pair, albeit indistinctly.
I also got some nice shots of a great crested grebe fishing for sticks.
