Night heron still fishing

We woke up to a light rain. We donned coats, made coffee and went for a walk along the beach, discovering this wader paddling along the beach. The red colour of the sea is soil washed down by streams into the sea. I came across this black-crowned night heron fishing at the point where the stream washes into the sea - there must be tasty eating there. The lighthouse on Kilauea Point can be seen, too.

After waiting for an hour on the road out of the campsite, due to a landslide of mud covering the road and being swiftly removed (it must happen a lot), we headed back south to pick up camping permits in Lihue, then west where we stayed at Salt Pond Park again. Lots of pottering about looking at a couple of waterfalls and the Wailua river.

At the campsite, we met our friendly campsite guard, Eric, whom we'd met almost every day since our first meeting at the airport (where he also works as a security guard). We had a great chat (the other campers thought we'd got into a huge amount of trouble) and arranged to meet for breakfast the next day.
