Trapped...

...in an eighties movie.

Remember "The Breakfast Club"?

Where I am this weekend reminds me of that movie. To be honest it is quite surreal for a humble north of England lass to feel trapped in America, particularly when I travelled to Germany!
The school is on an army base. Within the gates and outer fences are more fences and gates. Within those fences and gates are more fences and gates. Finally within the third set if fences and gates, the school is located. For the first two days the sky has been grey. A feeling of oppression has washed over all of us here. We have felt quite claustrophobic. Today the sun shined, it made a difference.
Looking down this corridor or hall just reminded me of the scene in the movie where they are all dancing. Then the shots of the environs revealing clearly that no one is at school on Saturdays.
I reckon living on any kind of base, camp or compound us rather like having a Saturday detention. You are in a familiar place, but the context is such that it feels so alien and uncomfortable.

Tragic in many ways.
