Wanderings & Witterings

Holidays

Wednesday was a grey, cold day when the temperature hovered around the 3 - 4° mark. Back to the warm coat and the hat, gloves and scarf for my walk. It was definitely a day for keeping it local, so I walked through Banknock along the Doup's Burn Path onto the Canal and home along that.

On passing the fence posts that reach down onto the Canal at Allandale I was puzzled to see what looked like a pair of oystercatchers on them. This spot is usually inhabited by black-headed gulls or cormorants, but using my camera to zoom in, it seemed that we had visitors. Given the weather, it wasn't a day for the seaside anyway!

Don't recall having seen oystercatchers here before. They must have been on their holidays. As long as they were from the Bo'ness foreshore or Skinflats they would have still been keeping within the government guidelines by not travelling beyond the council boundary.
