The Offing

This book was lent to me a while ago and I have just got round to reading it. It is a fascinating story of a young man from the Durham coalfields who at the age of 16, sets off South to discover a different world. He gets as far as Yorkshire, doing odd jobs and sleeping wherever he could, and ends up meeting a really interesting older lady who is retired after a busy life and now lives alone with her dog in a small holding in Notth Yorkshire.
