Golden Crocus
It was a good day for gardening today - a bit overcast, so no hot sun on the back of your neck, but dry and fairly mild. With the threat of rain later in the week, it was now or never to tidy up the garden.
The dead leaves that we'd laid down as a protective mulch over the flowerbeds had not rotted down as we'd hoped and were keeping the sunlight from the growing bulbs beneath, so I raked them all off again. This revealed masses of fresh shoots of crocus, muscari and daffodils all struggling to get out, so hopefully they should put on a spurt now.
These pretty crocuses had missed the mulch and so were flowering nicely, long before the others and gave a lovely golden glow to the border. There's still a lot of work to do, but we feel very virtuous that at least we've made a start:-)
