Pragelpass
Mr S planned to do a ski tour up the Silbernen near the Pragelpass. You can drive up to a Parking spot at Fruttli, at 1190m, the road just has some snow on it above 1100m. We weren’t the only ones, but there’s only room for about 12 cars. I got the snowshoes on, Mr S the skis with skins, we walked the first 10 mins together, then he set off in front, as the skis are more than twice the speed!
The walk along the river was a dream landscape, we came here in autumn and it was amazing without snow, but with snow it was out of this world. The fresh snow was fluffy and powdery, glittering in the spots where the sunbeams shone between the beautiful ancient spruce trees. I carried on toward the pass, enjoyed a cup of tea from my flask, then headed back through the valley back to the car.
I left the snow shoes under the car, then walked back down to Muotatal on the pass road which is very quiet. It was lovely walking along the Muota river, there was a beautiful Kloster and lots of large churches I’ve never seen before from the road.
After 5 hours on the way, Mr S rang and said he was on his way down in the car, and we negotiated a place to meet!
15.5 km, 5km on snowshoes, 250m ascent.
