Caterpillar
Last week a Brimstone butterfly flew past me in the warm sunshine. Despite it only being 4ºC this morning, I just saw (and snapped) a Scarlet Tiger Moth caterpillar. It's black, yellow, white and hairy and it was on a Wild Privet, which is not one of its main food plants. Apparently they over-winter as caterpillars, pupate in June and hatch into very brightly coloured black, white and red moths in July. This one has a long way to go...
