Catching the sun on wind-chilled cheeks

There is a herd of whooper swans on Fellcroft Loch.  How strange and random collective nouns in English are.  Why a herd of swans and, nearby, a wingless flock of sheep? I wonder if this is the same in other languages?

The extras show how weirdly two-tone the colours of the land around the lock are and the whooper swans in the distance.
