Extraordinary

After more than four months, the weekend curfew lockdown was lifted this week and so today was given to an excursion that was perfect in every aspect, spent very happily with Graham and Kat, in what felt like the greatest adventure, starting with brunch at My Bar in Didim. Not so long ago this was an almost daily event, but now an unusual pleasure.  From there, we went to the ancient Greek city of Miletus to wander the theatre ruins. The weather was warm and sunny - perfect for clambering up stairs millennia old, and I was very proud of myself for reaching the top - proof of this exertion is today's Blip!  This was not the only memorable moment here.  While wandering the performance area of green, I heard my name called, and turning, came face to face with a graduate from RC, visiting Miletus with two of his friends from Stanford university.  What are the chances that a moment's difference in my direction might have made?  We three talked for a while about Istanbul, California and New York - the whole encounter feeling quite surreal and bizarre, and as such added greatly to this already extraordinary day.  As did sightings of some of the four legged locals (extra).

After our exhilarating views, encounters and exertions, it seemed perfectly justified for us to recover with a fermented beverage at Mavi restaurant, where Graham watched as Kat and I also tried the probably not to be repeated experience described as 'spicy beetroot juice'. The beer was good though.

Thus restored, we came back down to earth and sea level to break the journey home with a supermarket dash stroll.  Once comfortably settled on the sofa, the rest of my evening passed in contented review of this most enjoyable day in all its extraordinary moments.
