Old-School Wind Power
Wimbledon Windmill, on Wimbledon Common, comes as something of a surprise. There you are, wandering through gently rolling woodland, trying your best not to hum the theme from The Wombles out loud, and suddenly you come across a clearing occupied by a golf club house, a tea room, and a large, attractive windmill (now a museum). Not totally unprecedented within the M25, but an unexpected pleasure nonetheless.
I passed it today on the Capital Ring, walking the largely park-based section from Richmond to Wimbledon, in order to meet up with my friend Marcus and friends for his birthday pub lunch.
