Hirst Mill
A Sunday afternoon jaunt took us down to the River Aire. We'd planned to walk along to Dowley Gap and then back through the woods on the other side, but we'd reckoned without the work being carried out on the canal aqueduct which meant we had to return the same way.
Hirst Mill was at the start of our walk - one of the three major water mills of Shipley which played a big part in the development of the area. It was a paper and corn mill amongst other things, but I think it's now been converted to apartments. There are nice ghost signs on two sides, but I haven't managed to decode the full script yet.
