Mayrhofen, Day 4.

We woke up to heavy snow at the chalet this morning, with the Penkenbahn disappearing into the mist over the forest. M was really excited as snowboarders love new powder - as a skier I was a bit apprehensive. I've not had much experience on the really soft, fresh stuff. It turned out I had no need to worry - when we got to the top the conditions were amazing; if felt like I was floating down the runs. My skis were buried 10cm below the surface of the snow and the powder was washing up to my knees!

Because of the good conditions, we headed off on our first black run of the holiday today - and I didn't even fall on it. Black 14 was fairly short but really lovely with the fresh snow, followed by the tail end of the Harakiri: the infamous Black with a 78% incline... In fairness, I just did the bottom section - but M got all the way down! I was really impressed.

Despite the cloud, we decided to eat at Panorahma again and had another great lunch of stuffed tortillas. The food is brilliant here and there's no guilt - we skied 41km today and caught 18 lifts! It was definitely worth taking a half-day yesterday. Today we headed over to the left side of the mountain and did a few runs we'd not tried before, and then we worked our way back over to the Penkenbahn on our way home.

The best part about staying in a chalet with 18 other snow-lovers is the chat about runs at the end of the day. Today we got speaking to some Scottish boys who told us about a run we had to do that ran through the trees and connected the Penken area to Eggalm. I'm excited to try it tomorrow!

To see the runs/places I'm talking about, there's a map here.
