Not much munch
Despite snow yesterday and a raging gale today, the horses were allowed out onto a field to graze all day. We were lucky the forecast for us was right: south of the Danube, it would stay dry. And it did only starting to drizzle for Luna's evening walk which we did in the shelter of the forest. But in the night the rain came and was lashed against the windows.
Main reason for letting the horses out was to get Sultan to stretch his neck and eat more from floor as he has a cough. As one can see there isn't really any grass and that is actually ideal, they spend a lot of time wandering around, necks down and are occupied finding a few crumbs, very much like their Steppe ancestors. We sadly don't have hundred kilometre long fields where they can search for just the right herbs to cure their coughs & ailments.
It will be interesting to see how the old Welsh pony Charmaine looks in May/June a year after coming to us. At the moment she has her teddy bear winter coat & lots of grey looking mud from enjoying a good roll.
