Stormy sky over the hospital

Around lunchtime yesterday, Pete developed some rather unusual symptoms, including some loss of feeling and strength in both arms, and a general unsteadiness. I tried to persuade him to call the doctor, but he refused. The symptoms didn't seem to fit with anything immediately life threatening, and seemed more likely to be neurological, so we agreed he should take it easy for the rest of the day and take some anti-inflammatory medicines.

By lunchtime today there had been some improvement, but his left arm still felt very odd so I persuaded him to ring the surgery. He spoke to a doctor who said he should either ring 999 or get to A & E as quickly as possible. Luckily we only live about five minutes drive away from the hospital so I dropped him off just after two in the afternoon.

I heard from him again about four hours later. He'd been subjected to a range of tests which had established that he hadn't had a stroke (phew) and didn't have Covid. However, they weren't able to identify the cause of his symptoms so wanted to admit him for further tests. I then had to rush round and try and find everything necessary for an overnight stay, including plenty of reading material, as he gets bored very easily!

I arrived at the hospital just after an intense hail storm had blown through. It took some time to find the right place, but I managed to deposit all his things before the next set of tests. He was finally admitted to a ward after eight o'clock, but there was no mobile signal so there's been very little contact since then.
