segway mayhem in Paris

As we sauntered around the base of the Eiffel tower, we had a close encounter and almost got run over by one of these contraptions in the Paris sunshine today.
Negotiating a corner with a bit too much velocity (and therefore momentum), Fred veered left then right, narrowly avoided a tree, became separated from his vehicle before ungracefully bouncing along the dirt and coming to a standstill at our feet.

After apologizing and recovering he agreed to pose for a blip, but accused me of wanting to take his picture only because he had fallen off his segway.
