Woodpecker
I was trying to take a photo of a long tailed tit in one of the trees behind my garden when this greater spotted woodpecker arrived and started drumming. I dug out two shrubs this morning that died over Winter, then sowed wildflower seeds in another part of the garden this afternoon.
This morning I was please to see the Sophie Ridge programme on SKY news dedicate the whole programme to looking at the issues raised by the murder of Sarah Everard and it was also covered on the Andrew Marr show on the BBC. At last there is talk about the conversation needing to change from what women need to do, to what men need to do. MP Jess Phillips reads out the names of women and girls killed in the UK in the last year where a man has been charged or convicted. She does this every year to mark International Women's Day and each year the number rises - this year it was 118, more that 2 every week. An investigation by UN Women UK found 97% of women aged 18-24 have been sexually harassed, and 80% of all women said they had been sexually harassed in public spaces in the UK. The Reclaim These Streets Just Giving page has now raised £507,876. Enough is enough!
Day 363 / Day 68 of Lockdown 3 / Day 7 of Step 1 of Roadmap out of Lockdown (for my record only)
UK deaths up 52 to 125,516 (revised basis), with 4,618 new cases, 8,029 patients in hospital, 1,110 on ventilation and 563 new admissions. Worldwide cases to date pass 120m, a quarter of these cases being from the US. 24.2m have now received their first dose of the vaccine and 1.6m have had their second dose. The Republic of Ireland joins the list of countries that have suspended their use of the AZ vaccine until cases of serious blood clotting after being given the jab are investigated.
