Mothering Sunday

The Mother Church used to beckon those in service to return on this middle Sunday in Lent. A far cry from the commercialisation of modern Mother’s Day. The pandemic has, however, curbed meetings and meals out this year, but in Scotland garden gatherings are now allowed.
On our walk today we saw happy meet ups in parks and carparks and noticed even more cars on the roads too.
On our walk we discovered this fleet at the end of Fisherrow beach. We counted a dozen curlew grazing on playing fields and stumbled upon Lewisvale Park complete with active aviary and imposing Bandstand. We tramped past four places of worship all firmly barred due to Covid and enjoyed the solitude of the NTS gardens at Inveresk which remain open.
We came home to a lovely floral surprise for Mother’s Day from our children and a great game of rugby which Ireland won by 3 points. A month’s break for Scotland may have contributed to their narrow defeat?
