The Cardboard Cathedral
The Cardboard Cathedral isn't cardboard, it's actually wood. Either way it's good to see a new building taking shape.
Big in interesting
It's interesting and different. Plenty of the cathedral's parishioners quietly get on with helping people in desperate situations. Good on them for pressing ahead with building their temporary cathedral. In the scheme of things it's a modest expenditure and I'm all in favour of religious freedom.
Realistically we're many decades away from a permanent cathedral. Look at the history of any such build. It's stop and start as money runs out. Ultimately it takes long enough to go through several economic cycles. The eventual Christchurch Cathedral will be no different. In the meantime we'll have something fresh, different and symbolic. I just hope it can weather and last as long as it's needed.
Now, if only those silly people more interested in saving the munted remains of the old cathedral, there would be one less negative thing in the lovely city to drag us down.
Yesterday's on the bottle blip.
