Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

The Secret to Life . . .

In one of his songs, James Taylor sings, "The secret to life is enjoying the passage of time." Today's photo is from our family Easter celebration in 1993. Our three grandkids are a rainbow of living color. Our oldest granddaughter, Ashly, was born with red hair; five months later her cousin, Desiree, was born a brunette, and Emerson arrived three years later with blonde hair. They have each added immensely to our lives, and we've always loved this photo of all of them together. So today I lifted this snapshot out of the photo album so I could take a picture of a picture.

Currently Ashly is 20 years old, a college sophomore, and living at home with her parents. Desiree just turned 20 the end of January and is the mom to 2-year-old Tristan and they live in Big Bear. Desiree is currently enrolled in the School of Hard Knocks. Both her Grandpa Fun and her Gramma Rosie are graduates of that same school and have tried to warn her that it's not a good place to be or to stay, but she'll have to decide for herself. Emerson is a high school senior preparing for graduation, which he is probably viewing as an exit, and most of us know it is really an entrance.

Mr. Fun gets all nostalgic and sad when he looks at photos like this. That's when I clearly hear James Taylor singing, "The secret to life . . . " Because time doesn't stop and it is the one thing we can never get back, I'd like to enjoy it, even though it keeps moving forward.

So while I was enjoying the passage of time and paging through some old photo albums, I thought this picture was timely for this weekend.

While doing a little bit of shopping today I kept thinking about all the toy chickens, bunnies, ducks and wondering why we don't see more lambs. Aren't Passover and Easter both about a lamb?

Good night from Southern California--a place with no rain today.
Have a great Easter Sunday everyone,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun) aka, Carol
