Somme discovery
The article on the BBC’s website yesterday (linked below and well worth a read) about the remarkable discovery and controversial opening up of the huge First World War German Winterberg tunnel near Rheims in France where there are believed to be the mummified remains of 400 German soldiers together with countless artefacts of war, reminded me of my own blue German water bottle discovered in a much smaller tunnel system on the Somme. This bottle, obtained legally, is in very good condition except for one small hole and some limited corrosion. The original cord points to Bernafay Wood where it was found.
