School run again today, hence another Newark dog walk. Hadn’t paid much attention to the Maltings before, but in my defence I’ve always previously bombed past on the nearby path on my bike.
History
The Maltings pictured date from 1864 and were originally owned by Warwick's and Richardson's Brewery and stands adjacent to the Northgate Brewery built in 1871.
Newark developed a reputation for brewing good beer at the start of the early 18th century and Celia Fiennes, a diarist and traveller of the time stated, “I met the strongest and best Nottingham ale that looked very pale but exceedingly clear”.
