Sexti Empirici Opera
We have a copy of Sexti Empirici Opera, a double columned vellum folio in Greek and Latin published in 1621. Its part of my late father-in-law's collection of philosophy books. Sextus Empiricus (160-210 AD) was a Pyrrhonist sceptic who proposed that we should suspend judgement about all belief. All a bit too heavy for me to digest. My interest lies not in the words but in the engravings that adorn the index and title pages as well as the historiated initials that start each column. The Tau with cornucopia photographed here is only four centimeters high.
