The Rough Wooing

Blipped this new sculpture which got installed in the  estate today.

The sculpture commemorates the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh in 1547, which was a battle in the Rough Wooing. Apparently, the English thought a bit of tough love would win us Scots round. The English won the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh, convincingly, and the day of the battle is colloquially known as ‘Black Saturday’.
