No Trains Today

Way back when, there was a time when just such a notice was pinned up at Wharf Station, the dilapidated railway not running because the only remaining, usable engine was in need of running repairs.   Then in 1950 when closure seemed certain a band of enthusiasts got up a plan to try and rescue this unique little line, "a piece of Victorian scrollwork"* that had somehow survived, almost unchanged since the era it was born into.

Of course, what we enjoy today is worlds away from what was rescued.  Clean, well maintained, a little modified, safer.   It does retain the charm and a special magic and we all look forward to the time when the current 'no trains today' notices can be taken down.   Soon hopefully.

After a dull morning the clouds rolled away and the second half of the day was beautifully sunny and a bit less cold than of late.   Jamie walked Jack and after yet more admin jobs, I took Meg up to Rhydyronen station and walked the lane up into the hills.   As we came back down, the sun was also on it's way down, the massed daffodils more golden than ever.   Extra pic for extra gold.
