In Yachats for the weekend!
Getting out of Portland on crowded freeways was a nightmare, but once we got beyond Salem, it was smooth sailing. Being fully vaccinated made a huge difference. We weren't afraid to use public restrooms on the long drive south, so for once we weren't uncomfortable driving the four hours down there. We didn't go so far as to get food on the way--Sue thoughtfully provided sandwiches to eat in the car.
After a stop for groceries in Waldport, we reached Yachats in time to enjoy a rare sunny day, the wind and the surf up, and ten or fifteen people (and dogs) at a great distance.
My second copy of Penelope Lively's Moon Tiger has now arrived (the first was impregnated with strong perfume and had to go into the trash), and we are reading it aloud to each other. That, the poetry of Louise Glück, and a deck of cards, and we had a fabulous Friday night by the fire.
