Tree surgery

Between meetings I nipped into the kitchen just as a man abseiled down my neighbour’s tree, chainsaw in hand. He has two double trunked birches up against the fence almost engulfing his small garden and extending into several other gardens. In summer the foliage blocks the sun and has left our south-facing gardens almost entirely in shade. Luckily the owner agreed to some work to remove lower branches and thin out the crown, six close neighbours will share the cost with him.

Most of all though, I wish he hadn’t planted such huge trees in his very small garden - there are lots of trees that would have been much better in the space. It’s a classic case of lovely trees in completely the wrong place - and the tree surgeon says they could grow up to another 50m more....
