Lion Gate
L3 Day 90 Lovely to see some sunshine today and a bit warmer. A local bike ride through Bushy Park, past Hampton Court and back along the towpath. Lion Gate was designed by Sir Christopher Wren for Queen Anne. The piers have Queen Anne’s monogram and the gates that of her husband George. The gate into Hampton Court Palace is usually open during the day so that people can go in and look at the outer gardens, without a ticket to the Palace and inner gardens. However it has now been shut for a year. The gardens are open at weekends for members and ticket holders. Looking through the gates you can see lots of daffodils . Next to the gate is an old Hotel - The Kings Arms. When it was built in 1709 it was called the Queens Arms as Queen Anne was on the throne but it was later renamed the Kings Arms when George I became King. It was refurbished about 18 months ago and has a restaurant called Six. Filming has been taking place at the Palace this week, but I have no idea what. A popular filming venue which was used in Bridgerton for the scenes which were supposedly in the court with the Queen at St James Palace.
