Witches of Scotland Campaign

Gladstone's Land hit the headlines in today’s Evening News.
The National Trust for Scotland have recently undertaken a major restoration of the 17th Century high-tenement house situated in Edinburgh’s Old Town.
As part of the restoration NTS are planning to name one of the rooms after the Reverend William Struthers who was a minister of St Giles and lived in Gladstone’s Land. Apparently he was involved in the trials of women suspected of witchcraft and implicated in the death of at least one woman and the torture of two others.
Witches of Scotland is a campaign for justice, for a legal pardon, an apology and national monument for the thousands of people – mostly women -  that were convicted of witchcraft and executed between 1563 and 1736 in Scotland. The campaigners have accused the Trust of being “extraordinarily insensitive”  asked them to rethink their plans for Gladstone’s Land.
