Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

To the Museum!!

Another first (for quite some months anyway)  a timed and limited entry to Seattle Art Museum to see the  American Black Artist Jacob Lawrence Exhibition, Struggle: from the History of the American People. 30 small egg tempura strong composition paintings he painted in NY in 1954-56 depicting the iconic struggles  of revolutionary times  by showing the ordinary people.   The bip I chose is his version of Lewtze’s “Washington crossing the Delaware”, instead of showing the historical figure , we have the ordinary people who fought and won in that 1776 winter battle.   it was so good to be there…  (extra, with Jacob’s ladder by a contemporary black artist and Jacob’s chair and photos from his life in Harlem and then Seattle. this painting is on the wall on the left)  I had the privilege of having him for a teacher in art school at the UW in the 70s…he was a lovely kind man who never that I can remember said anything critical to any student.

Got home in time to celebrate the retirement of one of our neighbors in our outdoor spot (she’s too young to have been vaccinated yet) but it started to rain soon after… the first time this covid style social place wasn’t so special.  but maybe the end is in sight.
