Woke to the news that the volcanic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula which had been predicted as a result of tens of thousands of earthquakes had finally begun in geldingadalur - dalur means valley and a gelding is a castrated animal, so it's basically 'castration valley'.  Spent some of the day reading this proof copy of the new Bella Bathurst book on farmers and their relationship with the land which is excellent...
