Spring, Day One

It's the Equinox here in Milwaukee! And, in fact, everywhere around the globe. The first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and for my friends in New Zealand, happy autumn to you.

Coats and hats are still on, but the sun is shining and, when it hits you directly, it's something of a warm day. We walked down to the Reservoir Park, as we often do, and the playgrounds and basketball courts were overflowing. This swing-set was particularly popular.

This a hilltop park just north of downtown which offers views of the entire city, which runs basically southwest to northeast along a curve on the coast of Lake Michigan. The Milwaukee River is at the foot of this hill.

The second photo contains a great example of the "cream city brick," out of which most old and many new buildings in the area are constructed. The larger glass and concrete skyscrapers make for a nice juxtaposition in architectural styles.

Leaving the park, we sat outside at Bremen Cafe (see entry for March 8), had Pabst or two, and caught the last hour of direct sunlight before coming home to movie night.
