Wat Preah Prohm Rath, Siem Reap

A Year Late Back Blip:

Last night was a very stressful one, spent trying to communicate with our various travel agents and the travel company running our tour and our local guide (who was doing his best to help, without great success despite his beatific smile) in order to find out if they were able to arrange alternative flights to the one we weren’t allowed to board earlier in the evening.

By 1a.m. we thought they had been able to and managed to get some sleep but when the local guide arrived after breakfast he told us the seats they had hoped to get had gone. He reckoned his local company might be able to get us on another flight and promised to let us know by late afternoon, so we decided we might as well make the most of it and spend the morning down town sight seeing.

The blip is of the Golden Boat in the Preah Prohm Rath wat, a Buddhist temple. The whole temple was an oasis of beauty and calm which was much needed, as were the drinks and lunch in our favourite bar afterwards.

We spent the afternoon in the hotel pool and by early evening our guide confirmed that he had got us a flight from Phnom Penh in two days time. The snag was we had to pay over £2000 per couple for the. What’s more he wanted cash! We eventually persuaded him this was impossible and managed to pay by card. It was just a great relief to know that, all things being well, we were not going to be stranded much longer and there was quite a celebratory mood when we headed back down to Pub Street for an evening meal.
