A Meandering Life...

HM Prison Northallerton (1788 to 2013)

Back to prison...

Over its history it housed male, female, women with children, young offenders and during WW2 it was used as a ‘glasshouse’ by the military.

Treadmills were installed in the 1820s and as mentioned yesterday it once had the biggest in the world. There appears to be an image on the wall of an entrance showing a treadmill in action. This is shown in my extra together with old cell doors being left in place plus a slightly different view.

The main image is the reverse of yesterdays. The 3rd listed building I mentioned is visible on the right. It occurred to me when the new buildings are constructed this view may not be seen again. In truth it never was on view before as there was a very big wall encompassing the prison not long ago…
