Faulty multimeter. Had a quick look over the usual type of issues, but didn't spot anything. A close inspection of the full sized version of this photo whilst editing tonight, did show one teeny diode that has obviously blown, though it won't be visible in the above. Something to try replacing tomorrow. Not an expensive meter, but then a replacement diode will be less than two pence, so worth a try.
