Look Out Below!
Cynthia and I were babysitting our honorary grandsons at the playground in Fairhaven Park this afternoon. This is IR , the elder of the two. He's quite the climber and very partial to trees, but he also found this feature quite interesting.
He's very intelligent and we have some good conversations, though my hearing disability sometimes makes it challenging. When I was pushing him on the swings today, he asked me to give him an underdog. I thought I must have misheard, and asked him to repeat it several times. We were both getting frustrated, when a mother of one of the other children overheard us, and gave me an underdog demonstration. I'll describe it for you -- you never know when you might be called upon to perform it.
Standing behind the child, holding the swing seat or chains, move back until the seat is level with your shoulders, or higher. Then run forward, pushing the swing until your arms are fully extended over your head, release, and get out of the way. This is only recommended for the brave of heart -- adult and child!
There were other fairly energetic activities required of me, and I'd played pickleball in the morning, so I had quite enough exercise today, thank you.
