The Cock Horse at Detling

This old inn has been a resting place on the Pilgrims Way to Canterbury since the 14th century. It must have witnessed and survived so much history over that time on the ground and in the skies. All being well it will survive the pandemic and reopen next month for at least another 700 years. For more information follow the link: https://cockhorsedetling.co.uk/history/

What I liked about the building is the higgly roofs, shapely white walls and tall chimney stacks which makes it such an interesting structure.

It was a glorious morning so we swapped plans for the morning with those for the afternoon and went walking calling in at the Detling Community Shop for a coffee and marmite sausage roll which we enjoyed sitting on a bench in the sun looking down the village street.

We missed the commemorative events yesterday. We knew about the minute’s silence. It passed us by while we were walking. We didn’t know anything about the candlelight vigil until this morning. Was there much notice?
