The Kurdish kilim I bought at the Qayseri Bazaar last night - just as it was closing. I wasn't intending to at all but I like the old fellow in the lavka and he opened up for us after hours - and anyway it's lovely. Only about 60cm square, rough and still rather sheepy.

Today is Uprising Day, commemorating the start of the uprisings (in Kurdistan - they started a few days earlier in the south, but with less success) in March and April 1991 against Saddam Hussein. Here it led to de facto autonomy by October of that year.

We got a day off.
