Devastation

Until this week, this was a lovely grassy track. I have blipped it many times over the years, full of red and white clover, yellow rattle, tiny eye bright, all sorts of interesting grasses and wild flowers.  There were wheel ruts with standing water in them most of the year, where you would see bird foot prints.

I've seen pheasants dust bathing in the warm weather along here, lots of butterflies and insects, rabbits, voles, shrews, hedgehogs, and now it has been absolutely devastated.

The digger started by digging out the ditches and then today it has scraped away the whole of the top surface. Trailer after trailer carted away all the plants, they have taken it right back to when it used to be the road through the village in the 1960s. Sixty years of vegetation. Gone.

It is going to be the access road for two new houses. I imagine that once they are built and sold, more will follow . . . . .
