River bed

Drove up above town and saw vines on the steep stoney ground.
Unfortunately, as usual, I was unable to stop on such a narrow winding trail. So no photos.
Saw several small stream beds. All dry.
This picture is very close to where I’m staying and a good place to let Gyp have exercise and explore.
Why are so many rivers dried up at this time of year?
