Sometimes I question my sanity.
Sometimes it replies !!
No apologies for blipping at the beach again today. After work I have to pop down to Weston Hospital on a Tuesday to drop off my eldest who is a volunteer DJ on Sunshine Radio, the Hospital Radio station. She loves it and works with her Co host Charlie, collecting dedications from around the hospital and then presenting the show. Normally she gets dropped off for 6 and by our miraculous time machine capabilities, Mum's taxi arrives to pick up nearly youngest 10 miles away from her Ballet class, at 6 o'clock ??? Anyhoo tonight Sunshine was at 5, so I got to dash precariously home from work, grab a coffee, drive to Sunshine, and IN GLORIOUS sunshine, pop down to Uphill, Weston Bay and go for a ... did I mention the sunshine ....walk.
Weston Bay is an inlet of the Bristol Channel in North Somerset, It lies between Brean Down, which is now owned by the National Trust, Much of the bay forms the seafront for Weston-super-Mare. Two piers stick out into the bay. The grade II* listed Birnbeck Pier was designed by Eugenius Birch and opened in 1867 and the early 20th century Grand Pier (in one of my previous blips)
Due to the large rise and fall of the tides in the Bristol Channel, the low tide mark is about a mile from the seafront. Although the beach itself is sandy, further seawards the shore is thick mud, which is very dangerous to walk in and is crossed by the mouth of the River Axe. (looks inocent but is treacherous).
I took the car onto the beach for the first time, there are a number of times throughout the year where various cars are pictured being towed out of the mud !! So not wanting that particular picture to be my Blip of the day I kept to the top line of the sand. The tide was out and as it comes back in the water seems to fill up from underneath the sand/mud layer creating a dangerous quicksand. BUT it is the most beautiful place to walk. IN THE SUNSHINE - WITH A BLUE SKY. Along the sand line a bit further towards the incoming tide were thousands of those tiny little butterfly shells, I used to spend hours collecting those and always intended decorating something or other with them. It doesn't show up particularly well on this picture but it almost looked like snow covering the entire walkway and made a delightful crunch as I made my way - not too far along the bay towards Weston.
All too soon it was back in the car, well a false start on that one as I realised that Mud I have been chatting about was all over my boots. I could feel the annoyed hubby conversation already, new car, we haven't put the mats in yet, what were you thinking ... so I got an old shopping bag out the boot an arranged that under my feet - couldn't untie my laces (double knot !! oh dear) and apart from the pedals all was well when I arrived home with child.
Now is time for too many chocolate biscuits and a large cup of tea and mentally prepare myself for tissue paper flowers tomorrow !!! It will be fine... It will be fine ....It will be :/
