Sowing oats.....

A dry start so the contractor here sowing 20 acres of spring oats. It was still a wee bit sticky as it's a field that has been quarried for sand and gravel and despite being drained,it is going to take years to get the soil back into good heart. We have been chucking dung on it every year to help build up the organic matter but it's never going to be as good as it was before.
I managed to get the fertilizer on it ,and Neil got it all sown before the rain and drizzle started this afternoon.
It's coming in from the NE and it's a lot colder than yesterday.
My biggest tractor looked like a toy next to their muckle Fender on the plough. The front wheels on it are the same size as the back wheels on my 120 hp McCormick.
An artic load of neeps delivered after teatime tonight. We lay them out in the fields to feed the sheep, but this will be the last of 3 29 ton loads we have had. It's always a gamble how many loads to buy because if the weather turns sh.t the sheep eat them up,but if the weather turns good they leave them and prefer to eat the grass instead.
