Where the Light Gets In

Wild worlds

we have forgotten
that we're one amongst many
species on this earth

As part of the name of the series ("Pour une nouvelle alliance" = "For a new pact") hints at, Baptiste Morizot defends the idea that we should akcnowledge once again that we are but one species among the millions that are present on the planet, and we shouldn't consider that nature is not a ressource put here for our use, but that everything that is alive on earth (animals and plants) is interdependent. The global underlying themes is that we should act in a way that makes us acknowkedge that all ten millions species are "ways of being alive" that are all legitimate.

This book is in the same series as this one. On the radio on Wednesday morning, I heard Vinciane Despret. She has a new book out (Autobiography of an octopus)... in the same series! The subject is rather intriguing: in the near future, scientist discover "paintings" left by octopuses and start trying to decipher them. What if all the traces left by animals were messages left for humans to understand?

I really like the series' logo: a wolf's footprint, two leaves, a human hand's print.
