A surprise survivor

After yesterday's outing, I needed a bit of catch-up time in the garden today. It was cold out there, but dry and intermittently bright.
I'm still clearing away winter debris, and sorting out what to plant in a few gaps where the severe weather defeated some perennials that are usually hardy.
I was about to tip 2 little clematis plants (patio varieties) into the compost when I spotted tiny green shoots on the twiggy stems. They made it after all.
