45 Years to the Day!
There was consternation and a little disappointment in our house last night when having asked John on the eve of our 45th wedding anniversary to get my wedding dress out of the loft so that I could use it as my blip for today, he told me it wasn't there!!
However after another more thorough search it was found and the next challenge was to see if it still fitted me - the answer lies in my blip - NO!!! I pulled - he tugged - I breathed in - he struggled to do the zip up - all to no avail. I didn't think I looked any different from when we got married and John agreed (he has learned a thing or two in 45 years!) but he said very kindly that my weight must have redistributed itself.
So - 45 years on - and we are still together, still happy and still make each other laugh - I reckon that's pretty good. It hasn't all been roses but there have been more roses than thorns and we are grateful for that.
For the eagle-eyed among you, the cards round the edge of the photograph are Telegrams - which people used to send years ago, when we only had a reception immediately after the marriage service - no evening receptions then - but I guess now they either send a card or text.
I also found the bill for our 3 day honeymoon at The Savoy Hotel in Bournemouth - the total for our stay was £27. 4s. 2d (in old money) - not sure what you would get for that amount these days. We even had an "en suite" which was quite something way back then.
We have a wonderful family who care about us and for us, great friends, food on the table and a roof over our heads - so what more could we want - we are richly blessed and thank God every day.
Here's one of the hymns we had at our wedding : O Perfect Love
