Easter in the Garden - a Day Early
As you may know, the grands spent the night last night - they're 3 1/2 and 7 1/2 (that half makes a damn big difference doesn't it?). The little one slept through the night...I couldn't believe it! And we were up before they were. Of course the Easter Bunny had not visited in the night since she was sleeping, but promised a visit after a shower and a cup of tea. So the children played the part and laid low till the eggs were hidden. Evidence of the hunt in the garden is in the main blip (because the Easter Bunny of course color coordinated the eggs with the plants/flowers!) of this lovely blooming Brunnera macrophylla - this is 'Jack Frost' if I'm remembering correctly. At any rate, a grand time was had by all on this rather chilly morning!
Last night we dyed eggs - a family tradition from wayyyyy back when I was a wee thing. My mom used to "blow out" eggs...remember that? She'd prick a hole in either end of the egg with a needle and then purse her lips and blow like heck on one end of the egg...and low and behold, the contents would manage to squeeze out the other end. Then we dyed them. I remember how much that hurt my ears, so I hard-boiled white eggs and we did science/artistic experiments with food coloring and left the eggs (in the fridge) overnight. The results are in the extra....some had little cracks. For lunch, we peeled them and made "Easter Egg Salad". It was a lovely concoction with some rather interesting pink flecks. It tasted fine and the grandchildren and husband consumed it with great enjoyment!
Hope you're having a lovely Easter weekend!
