Chaffinch

What an amazing day!

While the sun shone and the birds sang I:

1. Baked scones.
2. Served scones to yarden morning guests ArcLight and alfthomas - who brought delicious apple cake to the table, and peer reviewed our garden makeover progress.
3. Made a pasta dish for lunch with garden workers Paddy and Caitlin.
4. Served (more) scones to unexpected afternoon guests Katharine and Jack. They arrived bearing garden makeover gifts to help stock our flower borders.
5. Joined in gardening (weeding) while Paddy, Caitlin and Mr hazelh laid the edging stones from the patio, past the pond, along the back flower bed, beside the rockery-to-be, all the way to the end of the new wall behind the shed.
6. Sunbathed and bird-watched in our shared garden - here the chaffinch was blipped.
7. Played two games of Catan (Caitlin won the first, Mr hazelh the second), and several of Mind (a collaborative game at which we are all rubbish).
8. Accompanied Paddy to the Beerhive and Tesco to pick up outdoor supper supplies.
9. Dined on a delicious sausage stir-fry in our yarden.
10. Ended a perfect spring day by downing a Cadbury creme egg and watching the last 30 minutes of the recent documentary about Jack Charlton*.

The only mishap of the day is that Paddy pulled a muscle in his shoulder while finishing the work on the new wall by our shed. Here's hoping that it heals soon.

* The documentary is really well done. If you haven't seen it, I do recommend it: it's not all about football. My one (very personal) disappointment is that I would have liked to have seen a bit more coverage of fishing. This is because Charlton was in the same fishing syndicate as my father. It would have been nice to spot some footage of the River Tyne where the pair of them would exchange a few words about the prospects of catching salmon on the occasions that they met.

Exercise today: gardening.
