Lunch with Michel Roux..
Life can be tough sometimes. Today I had to visit City of Glasgow College to have lunch with, among others, Michel Roux Jnr. He was visiting the students at City of Glasgow College's Scholar's Restaurant, who prepared a quite outstanding lunch to recipes supplied by Michel himself.
In the picture beside Michel is the principal of City of Glasgow College, Paul Little, who was kind enough to invite me and indeed to have me seated next to him. We talked shop of course, but to tell the truth it was the exceptional service from the students that was the most uplifting part of the experience.
Michel gave an inspiring talk at the end of lunch to the students both from the kitchen and front of house areas who did so brilliantly well, under the gaze of arch-perfectionist Michel.
I had a chance for a brief chat with Michel, who was quite charming, freely sharing his time with the many guests. He had earlier in the morning arrived in time to talk with the students and ensure everyone was up for the task of preparing and serving a three course lunch to a specially invited audience.
The most pleasing aspect for me, besides the lunch, was the glow and smiles on the students faces as they realised they were being supported by such an outstanding chef.
